Relevant Legislation
The following links are for the principal Legislation relevant to the management of Trade Waste in South Australia:
- Sewerage Act 1929 - requires SA Water Corporation to manage the public sewerage system, including authorising discharges from businesses.
- Sewerage Regulations 1996 – specific provisions for authorising discharges of trade waste and associated charges and fees.
- Public and Environmental Health Act 1987 – pertains to properties located outside of the drainage areas proclaimed by SA Water under the Sewerage Act 1929. Trade waste from these is administered by the relevant Local Government body.
- Waterworks Act 1932 – requires all non-residential users of mains water to protect it from potential contamination through backflow. Includes powers to restrict water use and address its wilful wastage.
